Cleft lip surgery

A cleft lip surgery can be performed after the birth for highly successful results. It is not very common. It occurs only somewhere between one in 600 or 800 births. This condition is sometimes described by the term called hare lip or hair lip colloquially. This is because of the resemblance of a hare's lip.

A cleft refers to the separation in a body's natural structure. It is usually formed before the birth of a person. In oral facial region, clefts occur in the lip, the roof of the mouth or in the back of the mouth.

There are two kinds of oral facial clefts called cleft lip or palate and isolated cleft palate. The later are congenital deformities which are caused by the failure in facial development during gestation. There is also another minor cleft called as microform cleft .In this kind of cleft surgery is not required to correct it . A microform cleft can be a small dent or a scar.
