Blepharoplasty Surgery

Blepharoplasty refers to a cosmetic plastic surgery performed to reshape the upper eyelid or lower eyelid. It is done by the removal or repositioning of excessive tissues or by the reinforcement of surrounding muscles and tendons. This procedure is also used to correct the sagging eyelids or eye bags. It is also performed to open up the overhanging skin impairing the field of vision.

Blepharoplasty is also performed through external incisions. External incisions are generally made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids either in the upper eyelids or lower eyelids. The surgery generally lasts for one to three hours. Generally Blepharoplasty is performed by plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists and ophthalmologists.

This surgery is popular in East and Southern Asia. This is because about half of the population is born without an eyelid crease which is called as single - lidded. A crease can be created above the eye using this surgery so that eye can appear more open and alert and allows the application of make-up.
