Cosmetic surgery: Coming back for more
It is a lot easier to apply and undergo cosmetic surgery nowadays than it was ten years ago and as the prices of cosmetic procedures have dropped significantly (and some procedures are paid for by health care insurers) and it is possible to go abroad for even cheaper procedures, more people than ever before are undergoing this type of treatment.
Changing your looks is more normal than ever and with this fact a new and modern problem has surfaced. Surgeons and cosmetic surgery specialists are starting to see more patients every year. The slightly disconcerting thing about this is that more and more patients are returning for more. Especially women often seem tempted to have more surgery done after they went to a surgeon for their first procedure. Our present day society has accepted the fact that we can change the way we look and in most cases, sadly, this means that people are insecure and want to change the way they are completely.
Is there a responsibility in this for surgeons or should they do whatever a client wants them to do as long as they pay? It's a fact that, if one surgeon refuses to perform a certain procedure on someone who ha undergone numerous other cosmetic procedures, the client can easily go and see another surgeon to get their way. Reports of the American Society Of Plastic Surgeons show that more and more men are also signing up for cosmetic procedures nowadays. Since 2000 44% more men than ever before have applied for a cosmetic procedure.
