Cosmetic Surgery Increases Among Men

Cosmetic surgery used to be viewed as a procedure only for women. However, recently the number of men who are signing up for cosmetic procedures has begun to grow. Men are signing up to have cosmetic surgery procedures such as botox injections, nose jobs, eye lifts and other procedures. Since 2000 the number of men who visit cosmetic surgeons has gone up 44 percent.

For men the number one cosmetic procedure was liposuction of the abdomen. However, botox is increasing in numbers and may soon become the number one procedure. Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is another common cosmetic surgery among men. Other procedures include microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, chemical peels, hair transplants, liposuction and eyelid surgery.

The reasons for the increase in cosmetic surgery include competition in the workplace, better feelings over any physical shortcoming and to help improve the condition of their love life. However, not many know of the increase since men are still in the minority when it comes to cosmetic surgery and they are much more secretive about getting the procedures done.

Tummy tucks have seen a large increase in male patients with 37 percent between the years 2004 and 2005 making the total increase 156 percent since 2000. Lip augmentation is another with a 61 percent increase from 2004 to 2005 and a total of 458 percent since 2000.
