Recently the increase seen in cosmetic surgeries hasn't been for small "tune-up" jobs, rather it is for major cosmetic surgeries. Many of these new surgeries are linked to the recent increase of gastric bypass surgeries in which people have their stomach tied off to reduce the amount of food they eat.
After a gastric bypass surgery results in major weight loss then body contouring is a cosmetic surgery process that helps reshape the body. Today this is one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgeries. In 2005 about 68,000 body contouring surgeries were performed which cost over seven hundred million dollars. This is a twenty-two percent increase.
Part of the reason for this increase is due to the number of celebrities undergoing his new procedure. Since celebrities are having success with the process many others are choosing to have it done as well. Many find that the results from a gastric bypass surgery and the resulting cosmetic surgeries work very well.
However, fifty thousand dollars is the average price for a patient who has six or more cosmetic surgeries done to remove he aftereffects of gastric bypass surgery. Despite this high cost the number of body contouring cosmetic surgeries is expected to increase next year. Although, those considering undergoing this method of treatment should keep in mind that it is a major surgery and has associated risks. Another factor to keep in mind is that the process typically creates thick scars that can sometimes be several inches long, requiring additional plastic surgery if the patient wants to remove the scars completely.
