Procedure For Laser Skin Resurfacing

The new healthier looking skin that emerges after laser wrinkle removal will appear between two to eight months after the surgery. The skin should start to improve as the pinkness from the surgery begins to fade.
The results from the surgery will last anywhere from two years to ten years, with the best results occurring about one year after the treatment.

Laser skin resurfacing will improve the look of the skin, but it will not remove all wrinkles and lines. Wrinkles that are due to facial movement will not respond to treatment as well as wrinkles that are due to aging. It is wise to talk to your surgeon before the procedure to learn exactly what results are normal and whether the surgery will meet your own expectations.

When laser resurfacing for wrinkles is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, then the risks of serious complications should be minimized. It is best to choose a surgeon who is experienced in laser wrinkle removal.

Some of the possible risks and dangers include
  • Swelling and redness
  • Scarring around the treated areas
  • Secondary bacterial infections
  • Herpes simplex may become active in a person who has latent herpes simplex
  • Determatitis
  • Hyper-pigmentation and hypo-pigmentation (changes in skin color)
  • People with dark skin may develop uneven skin pigmentation
People with tissue disorders or inflammatory skin conditions are more likely to develop scarring or adverse skin reactions.

There is a greater risk of tissue damage and other complications when too many laser passes are made over the skin. There is some disagreement between plastic surgeons over the amount of passes that need to be made. Some suggest that more passes should be made as it results in fewer wrinkles. Others think that the benefit of additional passes in wrinkle reduction does not outweigh the greater risk. Talk to your plastic surgeon about the amount of passes he makes with the laser.
Conclusion
A laser wrinkle reducer treatment can greatly improve the appearance of the skin, but it will probably not eliminate all wrinkles. Fine wrinkles, freckles and age spots will be diminished and in some cases eliminated. However, it is best to talk to your plastic surgeon about your expectations and his ideas on what laser wrinkle removal surgery can achieve for you.
