Are You a Candidate For Facial Liposuction
Facial liposuction is cosmetic procedure that is used to correct appearance of the face that has either fat deposits or double chin. It makes the face more proportional by reshaping it. This procedure might sometime require follow up treatments and other home remedies such as cold packs to get relieved from the discomfort caused by the liposuction procedure. Read through. Who Performs Facial Liposuction Surgery?
Facial liposuction is a cosmetic procedure designed to contour the
face by removing localized fat deposits that are disproportionate
with other facial features. The chin and jowls are specific areas
of the face liposuction can alter significantly. It should be clearly
understood, however, that liposuction is not synonymous with weight
loss but rather seeks to reshape the face and make it more symmetrical
and proportional. Still, many patients report that once their sagging
features have been improved or removed, they do look and feel thinner.
How Is Facial Liposuction Done?
This recontouring is performed by inserting a tube called a cannula
into small incisions placed in inconspicuous areas of the neck or
face. The cannula is in turn connected to a suction syringe or pump
through which the excess fat is extracted from the bulging areas.
The liposuction procedure is especially effective in reducing double
chins that develop either as a natural result of aging, are a product
of obesity, or are inherited as a family trait.
Normally a single liposuction procedure is required to achieve
the desired results. (It is not uncommon, however, for a patient
to request a follow-up treatment to seek a further refinement of
the features.) The patient is lightly sedated in a “twilight”
state or given a sedative and sufficient local anesthesia. At the
end of the procedure the incisions are closed with one or two very
fine stitches. Normally patients will be fitted with an elastic
bandage for the first twenty-four hours and may be asked to wear
a similar elastic sling at night for a few weeks.
The procedure results in minimal discomfort, nothing that cannot
be relieved with mild pain killers. Cold packs are also beneficial
in reducing any resulting swelling and in helping to control post-operative
pain. Most patients return to their normal activities in two to
four days. The cost of facial liposuction ranges from $1,000 to
$4,000 depending on the amount of work performed. Similarly the
time required may vary from a hour to two hours.
In a variation of this procedure, known as ultrasonic liposuction,
the cannula is outfitted with a tip that emits ultrasound waves.
The waves convert the fat to liquid allowing for the material to
be suctioned off with less pressure. The procedure is regarded as
less traumatic than the standard liposuction procedure although
the two methods are often used in concert with one another. If ultrasonic
procedure is used alone, it can be slightly less expensive but still
costs approximately $2,000.
