Who can have Wrinkle Filler Injections
Filler injections insert filler underneath the skin, which plumps
up the skin and smooth away wrinkles. Facial collagen injections and
fat injections are the types primarily used. The fillers plump up
creased and sunken areas of the face. They may also make the cheeks
and lips fuller. They will not get rid of wrinkles, but they will
improve the look of your face, making wrinkles less noticeable and
leading to a younger appearance.
The injections are administered in a plastic surgeon’s office.
Anesthetic is administered with fat injections, but with collagen
injections an anesthetic is mixed in with the collagen.
Types of Filler Injections
The two most commonly used type of injections are facial collagen
injections and fat injections.
ollagen is a protein that naturally occurs in the body. Facial
collagen injections are made from purified bovine collagen. The
collagen in injected at several points on the treatment site with
a fine needle. There may be some minor stinging as the injections
are administered. Salt water is also included in the injection.
The salt water will be absorbed by the body after a few days. The
plastic surgeon may overfill the area to compensate for this salt
water.
Fat injections extract fat from the person’s body and inject
them beneath the skin. The fat cells are usually extracted from
the abdomen, thighs or buttocks. As with collagen, the fat injections
plump up the skin and fill in wrinkles and fine lines. They can
also correct sunken cheeks, skin depressions and other indentations.
The fat is withdrawn through a syringe. It is then prepared and
injected into the site where you want the fat injections to be administered.
The areas are often overfilled to compensate for the fat that will
be absorbed into the body. Most people are able to go back to their
normal activities straight away.
Botox injections are not strictly filler injections, as they do
not inject a filler into the skin. Botox involves injecting Botulinum
toxin Type A into a facial muscle. The injection paralyses the muscles,
smoothing existing wrinkles and preventing new ones from occurring.
Fibril and Gortex are two other substances that are used as filler
injections. They are less common than collagen and fat injections.
Fibril uses a gelatin powder mixed with the patient’s blood.
Gortex is a thread-like material that adds soft-tissue support.
Are They Really Effective?
Wrinkle filler injections do cause a significant improvement in the
appearance of your face. Deep wrinkles and fine lines will be diminished
in appearance and your face will have a plumper, more youthful look.
However, it will not completely remove all wrinkles. In fact, the
wrinkles will still be there. They will just be less noticeable. Also,
the effects are not permanent. The improvement may last only a few
weeks or indefinitely.
The Cost of Facial Filler Injections
The cost of facial filler injections will depend on the plastic surgeon
who does the procedure. Different plastic surgeons charge different
prices. The price will also vary depending on what type of treatment
you are getting and what wrinkles you are treating. As a rough guide,
collagen injections usually cost between $300 to $700. Fat injections
cost around $1000. Botox can cost between $300 to $1000.
